Pauls Valley, Oklahoma —
Doris Tennant of Pauls Valley passed away January 17, 2014 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years.
She was born April 25, 1925 in Menomonie, Wisconsin, daughter of William N. Cook and Bertha (Hagen) Cook.
Doris was raised and educated in Menomonie, graduating from high school in 1943. Shortly afterward, she went to Minnesota, whereupon she worked in an aircraft manufacturing facility, assembling airplanes/bombers for the war effort.
She, and other women like her, became known as “Rosie the Riveter.”
After the war ended, she traveled to California with her family, settling in the San Francisco Bay area, and working as an Office Manager in bookkeeping, etc. She married and had a daughter, Sue.
Doris enjoyed traveling across the United State with her husband Jack, a retired Air Force Major.
In 1988, she relocated to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma with her daughter and her son-in-law, Sue and Marty. Doris also worked many years as a foster-grandparent in the Wynnewood School
She also enjoyed many visits and traveling with her brothers, Mel and Gene, from Washington; she is also survived by various nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean-Coffey Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Don Riepe.
Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
