Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Faye Corrine Findley Grimes and Fern Lorrine Findley Genn, identical twins, were born on July 17, 1920 to Roy and Hazel Findley in Hennepin, Oklahoma. Faye passed from this life on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the age of 93.
Fern resides in Twin Falls, Idaho. Faye lived all her life in Garvin County, Oklahoma. Faye and Fern graduated from Woodland High School, then from business school in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Faye then began working in the Hennepin General Store and Post Office and remained employed there until marrying Woodrow W. Grimes of Katie on December 31, 1939.
Woodrow and Faye had a son, Larry David, then a daughter, Carolyn. They were farmers in the Katie area for years and then had the opportunity to lease a cattle and hay production ranch in the Wynnewood, Oklahoma area in 1961. They worked there and enjoyed life, retiring from ranching in 1991. Upon retirement they purchased a small farm in the Wynnewood rural area.
Faye thrived on being a wonderful wife. She cherished preparing large meals for her family, for guests, for the church, the community, and for the cowboys needed at round-up time and the seasonal harvesters on the ranch.
Yearly she entered her baked goods and canned food in the county and state fairs and loved to bring home those blue ribbons! Her kitchen was the center of her universe.
The love she held for her family and friends showed itself through the detail she put into the preparation of each guest’s favorite food. This ministry of sharing her love through her cooking carrried outside her home as well. If Faye heard of a family in need or suffering the loss of a loved one or enduring an illness, she was right there providing meals in their time of need.
Gardening was another project Faye took great pleasure in undertaking. She planted, worked and harvested out of her garden more food than any one family could consume in a year!
Anyone who came to visit Faye always left with fresh fruit or vegetables from the garden during the summer. During the fall and winter, Faye was sending friends and family off with boxes of canned vegetables and fruit to see them through until the next visit.
Being a talented seamstress was another of Faye’s talents. From making all of Woodrow’s western suits to upholstering furniture, she enjoyed creating from fabric. She had a large base of customers from a wide area who brought fabric to her to be sewn into wedding dresses, baby items, drapes or alterations.
Faye was an extremely hard working lady, but love was woven all through the activities that filled her life. They were truly “labors of love!”
Woodrow and Faye were active members of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Wynnewood. Faye was active in W.M.U. and taught Sunday School. She was a frequent volunteer and a deacon’s wife for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Grimes is survived by her son David Grimes and wife Sherrie of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; daughter Carolyn Ann Hunter of Sherman, Texas; brother Joe Findley of Oklahoma City; sisters – twin sister Fern Genn of Twin Falls, Idaho and Tempe Finley of Oklahoma City; 5 grandchildren – David and Scott Grimes, Michelle Tadaki, Julie Robinson, and Rebecca Sexton; and 11 great-grandchildren.
