Pauls Valley Democrat
Pauls Valley, Oklahoma —
Roy E. Hackney was born to Barney Hackney and Emily Jones on July 22, 1933 in the Fairview community in McClain County, Okla., and entered eternal life on June 20, 2013 in Lindsay, Okla., at the age of 79 years.
On January 6, 1975 Roy married Tommie Fullerton in Criner, Okla.
As a working man, Roy worked as a vendor for the Blind Association for many years as well as an owner and operator of a service station. He also had a love for farming. Mr. Hackney later retired from the Blind Association Vendors.
He was a long time member of the Iron Chapel Church and also served on the Dibble City Council.
Roy loved any kind of wood work, working on tractors with the boys, raising sheep and goats with his son Tim and “running” the nursing home facility with his granddaughter.
He was a die-hard OU fan, who also loved to water-ski and of course spend time with his children and grandchildren. He always tried to teach others that any obstacle or disability can be overcome by turning it into something positive.
Mr. Hackney is survived by his wife, Tommie Hackney of the home; daughters: LaWatha Thomas and husband Dennis of Chickasha, Okla., and Anita Gosnell of Lindsay, Okla., as well as a very special daughter-in-law Debbie Whitehead of Lindsay, Okla.; brothers: Travis Hackney and Joe Hackney, both of Blanchard, Okla., and Alfred Horath of Start, La.; sisters: Wilma Harmon of Dibble, Okla., Joyce Moore of Lindsay, Okla., and Gladys Trammell of Wynnewood, Okla; 7 grandchildren: Jeremy Hinds, Larry Whitehead, Chris Whitehead, Cassie Whitehead, Jared Gosnell and wife Amanda, Jesse Gosnell, and Justin Gosnell; and 7 great-grandchildren: Dalton and Cache Hinds, Timothy Ryan, Nick and Faith Whitehead, Kaden Gosnell and a great-granddaughter on the way, Pistyl Jaye Gosnell.
He is preceded in death by his parents Barney and Emily Hackney; step-mother Marie Hackney; sons Roy Dale Hackney and Tim Whitehead; brothers Troy D., Edmond, Pete, Barney Jr., and Leo Hackney; sisters Margie Gordon, Zella Blair and Irene Kanive and nephew Michael Dean Hackney.
