Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Mae Pearl Cunnius Childress was born to Joe and Lillie Mae Clemens on November 14, 1927 in Elmore City, Oklahoma. She grew up and lived in Elmore City all her life.

Mae Pearl passed at the Norman Specialty Hospital on March 23, 2013 at the age of 85 years and 4 months after a long battle with multiple illnesses.

Mae Pearl met and married a young Elmore City man, J.C. (Jiggs) Cunnius. They were married June 24, 1946 in Arkansas. To this union 3 children were born - Paula Mavon, Sonya Jeaneen, and Robert Edwin. In 1984, another son was adopted into the family, Terry Joe.

She had worked at the Southern Oklahoma Resources Center in Pauls Valley as a caregiver for many years. Jiggs and she spent a number of years participating in the Foster Grandparents Program.

Mae Pearl loved her home and loved gardening. She loved to sit on the patio drinking her tea and enjoying the wildlife in her pasture overlooking her ponds. In her younger years she loved fishing in her ponds.

Mae Pearl loved children and enjoyed having her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her. A long time member of the Church of Christ she left this life in peace.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, J.C Cunnius, and her late husband, Jim Childress; a sister, Jo Yvonne Clemens; parents, Joe and Lillie Mae Clemens; son, Terry Joe Cunnius; sister-in-law Geneva Clemens, and a son-in-law, William E. Springer Jr.

Mae Pearl is survived by her daughters: Paula Mavon Horton and husband Hardy of Dibble, and Sonya Jeaneen Springer of Elmore City; son, Robert “Ed” Cunnius and wife Dianna of Elmore City; granddaughter, Shelby Fulks and husband Ronnie of Noble; three grandsons: Richard Horton and wife Elaine of Goldsby, Robert Cunnius of Elmore City and Jeff Cunnius of San Antonio, Texas; five great grandsons: Cameron Horton of Chickasha, Hunter and Hudson Horton of Goldsby, Garrett Fulks of Noble and Cash Cunnius of Elmore City; one brother, John G. Clemens of McAlester; two nieces, Susan Munson of McAlester and Sharon Beebe of Las Vegas, Nevada; one nephew, John Clemens Jr. of McAlester; three sisters-in-law: Noma Drennan, Lena Ellis and Shirley Goodman of Elmore City; one brother-in-law, Nolan Cunnius of Elmore City; one step-granddaughter, Kimberli Tyler of Oklahoma City; and three step-great-granddaughters: McKenzie Taylor, Kassidie and Kadi Tyler of Oklahoma City.

Graveside funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in the Elmore City Cemetery with Joe Terrell officiating.

Interment will follow under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at
