Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Alvin Alonzo Gary of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma was born to Roy and Jewell (Watson) Gary on August 10, 1926 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma and passed from this life on October 28, 2013 in Lexington, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years.
Alvin grew up and spent his early days in Wapanucka, Oklahoma. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from January 17, 1945 in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper until October 3, 1946. He acquired his G.E.D. in Tehachapi, California where he worked as a 1st class repairman at Monolith Portland Cement Co.
Alvin retired in 1980 after 34 years of service and then moved to Allen, Oklahoma before moving to Pauls Valley in 2005.
He loved to raise cattle and farming. Alvin was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Gary is survived by his wife: Wilma Gary of the home; sons: Rick Gary and wife Louise of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and David Gary and wife Terrie of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; daughter: Cheryl and husband Harvey of San Angelo, Texas; brothers: Bill Gary of Hale Center, Texas, Gene Gary of Tehachapi, California, and Robert King of Atwood, California; sisters: Rachael Walker of Austin, Texas, Loretta Gary of Vacaville, California, and Christine West of Atwood, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Gary was preceded in death by his son: Dennis Gary; father: Roy Gary and, mother and step-father: Jewel King and husband Hugh; sister: Naomi Ward; and great-grandchild: Hayden Sisk.
Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Atwood Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
