Pauls Valley, Oklahoma —
Phyllis (Miller) Summers, 76, was born February 8, 1937 to E. M. (Mance) Miller and Anna Bell (Seawright) Miller at Bray, Oklahoma.
She attended the Bray Public Schools for 12 years and then she went to Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha, Oklahoma receiving her B.S. degree in 1959.
That fall she started her teaching career at Vanoss Public School, teaching Vocational Home Economics. There she met the love of her life, Eugene Summers. She taught for three years and their oldest daughter (Gina) was born in August 1962.
In October they moved to Pauls Valley, where two more daughters (Sherry 1965 and Cathy 1967) were added to the family.
She was active in her church and community activities. She served two terms as PTA president of Jefferson Schools, one two-year term as treasurer of the Garvin County Extension Homemakers Council.
One of her favorite activitities was to cook at Falls Creek which she did for several years.
After her daughters were in school, she went to work as a teacher’s aide at the Pauls Valley Junior High School, later the Middle School where she worked for 22 years.
Mrs. Summers died on August 20, 2013 after a courageous battle.
Mrs. Summers is survived by her daughters: Gina Berger and husband Ross of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Sherry Summers of the home, and Cathy Summers of Midwest City, Oklahoma; grandsons: Jeff Berger, wife Sarah and great-grandson, Isaac Gene of Fitzhugh, Oklahoma, and Daniel Berger of Norman, Oklahoma and fiance’ Ashley Cardwell of Mustang, Oklahoma; sister and brother-in-law Pat and Joe Bloomer of Bray, Oklahoma; brother Jimmy Don Miller of Cherokee, Alabama; brothers-in-law: Joe and Roberta Summers of Ada, Oklahoma, and Mack and Laveta Summers of Vanoss, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by her husband Gene Summers, and parents Mance and Anna Bell Miller.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Wilburn officiating. Interment will be in the Lightning Ridge Cemetery uner the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
