Playoff road long for some

The playoff road in the first round is long for Pauls Valley, Maysville and Wynnewood as they open up play in their respective class. Stratford and Lindsay have the short road as they both play at home as five Garvin County teams are headed to week 11 - the playoffs.

The road for the three county schools is over 100 miles each, one-way, with Wynnewood making the longest trek to Talihina, which is 148 miles away. That 148-mile trip is four hours long by car and even longer by bus as there are no interstates to travel on.

Pauls Valley’s 142-mile trip to the Tornado Bowl in Clinton is all interstate road and is just over two hours by car.

Maysville’s trip to Cordell is only 114 miles long cross country but would take over three and a half hours. Cordell which is just south of Clinton at 151 miles is just under three hours if you take the long road via the interstate.

But if you think that is long be lucky that you don’t attend school in Laverne and travel with that school. The Tigers will be making a day of it as they travel to Caddo to play the Bruins. The trip is over 320 miles long and travel time is seven hours by car.

If all the county schools win Friday night, Maysville and Wynnewood would both be at home the following Friday night. Pauls Valley would be headed to Tulsa if everything else went according to plan which is another two and a half hour trip.

Lindsay would travel to Edmond to face Heritage Hall while Stratford would travel to Tonkawa, a 260-mile trip to northern Oklahoma.

In Class 3A, Tuttle, Clinton, Metro Christian, Casica Hall and Madill are the heavy favorites. Clinton is finally getting healthy and may be the most dangerous with their playoff success of the past.

In Class 2A, Heritage Hall is 6-4 but is primed and ready to capture the title. Davis is the favorite but Lincoln Christian, Seq. Tahlequah and Chandler all have title hopes. Never count out Millwood who always seems to be playing their best at the end of the season. Jones, if reinstated, could upset the whole bracket as teams get moved around.

In Class A, Tonkawa, Hennessey and Ringling are getting the most pub and deservingly so. All three are undefeated and ready to claim the championship. Cashion, Stroud and Talihina are not really dark horses but aren’t getting the pub those other three are.
