marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Pauls Valley Lady Panthers have played a tough schedule thus far with all three losses coming to top 15 teams in the state including No. 14 Bridge Creek Tuesday night 45-32. The Lady Panthers have had a chance to win in all three losses but came up short late in all three games.

Tuesday night, Pauls Valley didn’t get off to a good start against the Bobcats falling behind 6-0. A 9-0 run in the last half of the first quarter behind four points from Abigail Grimmett gave PV a 9-6 lead.

Over the next 15 minutes the Lady Panthers struggled to find the basket. Bridge Creek would tie the game early in the second and by half time had a 19-15 lead. PV scored six points in the eight minute second quarter with Mary Beth Balcerak netting four of them.

For the first seven minutes of the second half Pauls Valley really struggled as they missed every shot they put up. Bridge Creek built a 14-point lead and looked like they were going to walk away with an easy victory.

The Lady Panthers caught fire in the final 55 seconds of the half scoring six points and cutting the lead to eight 29-21. Jessica Richardson, Kallie McMahan and A. Grimmett all had baskets in the run.

Bridge Creek was able to end that run and build back an 11-point lead in the first half of the fourth quarter. Richardson and Balcerak then sparked an 8-1 run with four points each that cut the lead to four with just over three minutes remaining.

Pauls Valley had a couple of opportunities to cut the lead even further down but just missed on a couple of shots. Bridge Creek finally got their feet back under them and scored an 11-2 run in the final two minute, hitting 7-of-8 from the line, to open back up a cushion and escape with a 13-point win.

Richardson led the Lady Panthers with 11 points for the only player in double figures for PV. Dawkins had 20 and Sandlin 17 for the Bobcats.

Over the next 29 days, the Lady Panthers will play 11 of their 12 games on the road. Only a January 18 makeup game will have PV playing in the friendly confines of the Panther Gymnasium.

PV opened up play in the Marietta Tournament Tuesday morning as they faced Wayne.
