Sophomore Treston Williams hit the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the seventh inning. When it left the bat it was headed over the head of the left fielder and had a chance to score David Flores from first.
The ball continued to climb and clanked off the Panthers score board for a home run and a 4-2 win over the Elgin Owls.
Williams home run was the first for the Panthers this season and turned out to be one of two walk off home runs on the day.
Coming off a subpar performance at Wynnewood on Tuesday, Drake O’Bryant found his groove again on Friday.
O’Bryant gave up two runs on four hits in seven innings of work. He had 12 strikeouts and walked only five.
Pauls Valley started the game with back-to-back singles by O’Bryant and David Flores. Daniel Brown walked to load the bases. Williams put the ball in play and reached on an error as O’Bryant scored for a 1-0 lead.
Elgin came back with two runs in the top of the second off O’Bryant. McGee was hit with a pitch and Jones singled moving McGee to third. A one-out walk to Christensen loaded the bases. A walk to Logan scored a run and Bartosausky single home another as Elgin took a 2-1 lead. O’Bryant got out of the inning with a strikeout and then a ground out.
Elgin kept the lead until the bottom of the fifth when Flores singled to start the inning. Braden Jackson came into run for him. He moved to second on Daniel Brown’s single and to third on Williams single as PV loaded the bases for a second time in the game.
Jackson would score on a wild pitch as PV tied the score at 2-2.
Flores had his third hit of the night to start the seventh inning. With one out, Williams stepped to the plate and delivered the game winning hit, a walk off home run off the scoreboard in left field.
The win pushes the Panthers to 7-1 on the season. The Panthers will take time away from the diamond for Spring Break but will return to action Thursday in the PV Invitational.
