Panthers have tough game at Plainview

marie@pvdemocrat.com — Pauls Valley faces the first of two big road tests Friday night as they travel to Plainview to face the emerging Indians. Like the Panthers, Plainview has gotten hot in district play winning four straight while Pauls Valley has won five straight.

This game is huge for both teams, as the winner will have the inside track to a home playoff game in week 11. Pauls Valley still has a road game with Madill who defeated Plainview earlier in the year while the Indians have a week 10 date with archrival Lone Grove.

“This is a big night,” Plainview coach Chris Berus told the Daily Ardmoreite. “Our kids know that we slipped up against Madill, and for us to be able to host that first round, we’ve got to take care of business.”

The Indians fourth straight win came as a shutout last week against rival Dickson. Plainview’s defense has been stingy since giving up 500 yards in a 59-45 loss to Madill five weeks ago.

They allowed the Comets to gain 152 yards last week including 95 through the air. They kept the shut out in tact by stopping Dickson late in the game on the goal line.

The Plainview offense has been good also. The option squad has averaged over 35 points per game. They had 217 yards on 13 carries last week including a 94-yard touchdown run by James Bowker. Bowker led all rushers with 111 yards on four carries.

Brandon Nowell had 140 total yards that included a 23-yard touchdown run and a couple of big catches in the Plainview passing game. Austin Carrera had three touchdowns, two on the ground and one through the air. Indian quarterback Taber Jordan threw for over 150 yards and had three touchdowns.

Pauls Valley got a big boost last week with JC Eyabi returning to the lineup and a huge game from Joe Kyle Foster in the passing game. They will need both this week against the stingy Plainview defense.
