Pauls Valley, OK, Pauls Valley Democrat

Shooting woes doom Pauls Valley — The Pauls Valley Panthers had a good rhythm early Tuesday night at Lexington.

A 6 minute stretch at the end of the half allowed Lexington to gain all the momentum as they pulled away in the second half for a 50-37 win over the Panthers.

Lexington (6-4) broke a two game skid while the Panthers lost their third straight game.

Although Pauls Valley didn’t lead in the first quarter, they did stay stride for stride with the Bulldogs.

A steal by Hunter Nation with less than 7 seconds in the quarter and then a pass to Treston Williams who hit a three at the buzzer cut the Lexington lead to 12-11.

Pauls Valley took that momentum into the second quarter and took their only lead of the game at 15-14 on a Williams layup. Lexington would go on an 8-0 run over the final 6 minutes of the half to open up a 22-15 lead.

Pauls Valley got as close as 7 early in the second half but the wheels fell off after that. An 11-1 run over the final five minutes of the quarter pushed the Lexington lead out to 36-19.

PV hit back-to-back three pointers to start the fourth but couldn’t get any closer than 11 points.

Lexington only scored one basket in the final 10 minutes of the game but would hit 17 or 20 free throws to finish up with a 13-point win.

Pauls Valley committed 26 fouls on the night including two technicals to the Bulldogs 12. Lexington shot 36 free throws while PV only went to the line eight times.

Pauls Valley will be back on the road at Little Axe Friday night and will be at home for their only home game the rest of January on Saturday as they make up a game with Tuttle.
