PV falls in OT to Newcastle

marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Pauls Valley Panthers blew a 16-point first half lead to a tough Newcastle team Tuesday night at the Panther Gymnasium.

The Racers used a 14-3 run to close the gap early in the second half and finally took the lead with two minutes left in the game.

A three-pointer by Johnson gave the Racers a 3-point lead with under 10 seconds remaining in the game. Pauls Valley pushed the ball up court and Treston Williams got off a shot at the buzzer and hit nothing but net to send the game into overtime.

Newcastle took control in the overtime and never looked back scoring a 71-62 win over the upset minded Panthers.

The hot shooting Panther raced out of the gate. Pauls Valley shot over 66-percent from the field behind 13 points from Treston Williams. Greg Balcerak, Hunter Nation and Matt Perry had six points each as PV took a 37-23 lead at the break.

Newcastle came out in the second half with a 14-3 run behind 7 points from Persall and 6 from Asperhem.

Balcerak would score six of the next 8 points for the Panthers to push the lead back out to 9.

Newcastle would finish off the third quarter and move into the fourth quarter with a 19-6 to take their first lead since early in the first quarter.

PV tied the game at 56 with just under a minute to got. Johnson then hit a three pointer to give Newcastle the lead late in regulation.

Williams then hit a buzzer beater with a Racer player in face to tie the game at 59 and send the game into overtime.

In overtime Newton scored 7 of the Racer 11 points for a 71-62 win.

Williams finished with a game high 21 points. Balcerak finished with a double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Nation nad Perry finished with 8 points each and Carter Tate and Michele Meave both have four points.
