marie@pvdemocrat.com — Newcastle blew open a tight game with a 12-1 run to start the fourth quarter but had to hold on after a PV 8-0 run that closed the gap to three late in the game.

The Lady Panthers were forced to foul to get the ball back and the Racers made them pay hitting 5-of-8 late in a 55-48 win.

The two teams fought back-and-forth for the first 24 minutes with the largest lead by either team being 6 points. There were 8 lead changes and the game was tied on two different occasions in the first 24.

Pauls Valley missed opportunities at the line and in the lane that would have given PV a lead. PV did lead 39-38 after 24 minutes but Newcastle would go on a 12-1 run to open up a 10-point lead at the start of the fourth.

Jessica Richardson scored six of the next eight points for the Lady Panthers cutting the lad to two with two minutes remaining.

Newcastle would finish out the game with five straight point for a seven-point win.

McMahan finished with a team high 12 points and Richardson finished with 11. Mudhar added 8 points, A. Grimmett 6, Balcerak 5, C. Grimmett 4 and Ledbetter 2.

PV will play on Friday or Saturday in the Canadian Valley Conference Shoot-Out in Bethany.
