marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Pauls Valley Lady Panthers got a tough draw in district action as they hosted the No. 9 Elgin Lady Owls Friday night.

The Lady Owls behind a 24-point performance by 6-3 senior Jentry Holt raced past the Lady Panthers 62-34.

Elgin came into the game with only five losses on the season. All five came to top ranked teams in either 4A or 5A. Elgin lost twice to No. 1 Anadarko out of 4A and No. 11 Cache. Their other loss to was No. 7 Peidmont out of 5A.

PV knew it would be an uphill battle but they battled all night even though they were down by as many as 29 points in the game.

PV led once in the game at 2-0 before Elgin would go on a 16-2 run and never look back.

After a bad first half shooting in which they only scored 10 points, the Lady Panthers got on track some in the second with 24 total points.

Elgin was steady all night despite scoring only 13 in the second quarter they scored 16 and 17 the other three.

Pauls Valley’s pressure gave the Owls some trouble at times. Depth for Elgin allowed them to keep fresh girls on the court and eventually wear out the Lady Panthers.

Nine different girls got into the scoring column for PV with Kallie McMahan leading the way with 8. A. Grimmett, Richardson, C. Grimmett, Balcerak and Caldwell each had four each. Ledbetter had 3, Lambeth 2 and Mudhar 1.

Pauls Valley will now travel to Elgin for regional play Thursday afternoon against he loser of Kingfisher/Bridge Creek.
