Turnovers costly for Elmore-Pernell

Pauls Valley Democrat — Elmore City-Pernell squandered a couple of chance deep in Texhoma territory Friday night and it cost them in a 26-14 loss to the Red Devils in the Class A quarterfinals.

The Badgers played well on both sides of the ball in their first ever quarterfinal action in school history. ECP moved the ball on highly rated and undefeated Texhoma but lost two fumbles in Red Devil territory and had one ball intercepted.

After a defensive battle early on, Texhoma got into the scoring column early in the second on a Bryson Beattie 7-yard run.

Elmore City would march right back down the field and score on Quinton Stueart’s 1-yard run cutting the lead to 8-6.

Beattie would score again just before half on a 35 yard pass from Jack Powers as the Red Devils took a 15-6 lead.

Both defense rose up in the third quarter and didn’t allow the other to score. Early in the fourth, Texhoma would add to their lead as Powers raced in from 6 yards out and added the conversion run for a 23-6 lead.

Another EC turnover would lead to a 26-yard field goal by Meyers as Texhoma opened up a 26-6 lead.

Elmore City would get a huge pass play from Collins to Stueart late that set up Collins one-yard touchdown run that made the final 26-14.

Elmore City finishes the year with a 7-6 mark and the first ever appearance in the state quarterfinal round.
