No real surprises in day 1 of Big 8

marie@pvdemocrat.com — There were no real surprises in the opening round of the Big 8 Tournament being held in Maysville Monday.

The closest game of the day came early as Wynnewood escaped Community Christian 44-42 in the 4:30 contest.

Tashyra Burrough led the balanced Lady Savage attack with 10. Justice Carter and Hannah Rose had 9 each, Challen Carter had 8 and M. Rushing and Cozy Avery had four each. Nikki Davidson led CCS with 11.

In the other girls game, Wayne jumped out early behind 8 points each from McKenzie Posey and Caleigh Clifton and rolled to a 60-11 win over Maysville.

Clifton finished with a game high 18 and Casey Redus added 12 for the girls in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs. Carolyn Cordell and Priscilla O’Dell led the Lady Warriors with four each and Brooklyn House chipped in three.

In the first boys game, Paoli ran into a buzz saw as they lost to Community Christian 81-30. CCS jumped out early behind 10 points from Matt Borgerding and 8 points from Aaron Baker. CCS scored 34 points in the first quarter and never looked back.

Borgerding finished with a game high 26 points. Baker finished with 16 points and Alex Borgerding had 15 for the players in double figures.

Andrew Duncan had 11 to lead the Pugs. Aaron Webster and Dustin Duncan both had 6 points each, Blake Hashagan added 4, Bryson Travis 2 and Bryan Zammaron had 1.

In the late game Elmore City-Pernell jumped out early and rolled to a 79-54 win over Stratford JV.
