marie@pvdemocrat.com — Twenty years after their last trip to the state championship game, the Wynnewood Savages are returning to the championship after a 41-28 win over Cashion on Saturday. Behind a 175 yard rushing and three touchdown performance by Trey Knowles the Savages will be making their 9th appearance in the state title game this Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

After trailing in the game 7-6, the Savages exploded for 28 straight points to blow the game wide open. Jace Brown’s 85-yard pass play to Levi Phillips got the offense rolling and gave the Savages a 14-7 halftime lead.

Knowles would score on the Savages opening of the second half and then score again in the middle of the quarter for a 27-7 lead.

Gus Reinert would haul in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Brown late in the quarter and the finals were in the Savages sights.

Cashion made the game interesting with back-to-back touchdown passes from Ty Reasnor to Nate Lee one late in the third quarter and the other early in the fourth.

Wynnewood’s Curtis Rushing would ice the game in the middle of the quarter with an 18-yard touchdown run.

Cashion would score late to cut the final margin to 13.

The Savages gave up over 400 yards in offense to Cashion but only gave up 45 of those on the ground.  Cashion had 357 yards passing on 26 of 47 passing.

The Savages had a pretty balanced attack with 420 total yards, 280 of that on the ground. Brown had 140 yards on 5 of 8 passing.

The Savages will now face Ringling in the Class A title game Saturday at 1 p.m. at OSU.
