Panthers suffer first set back — The Pauls Valley Panthers suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday night losing 14-5 to rival Wynnewood at Savage Field.

Pauls Valley held a 5-3 lead going into the fourth but the Savages exploded for four runs in the fourth and six more in the sixth to end the game in a run-rule.

Wynnewood had nine of their 14 hits in the two big innings.

Pauls Valley had all 5 of their hits in the first three innings but couldn’t must a hit in their final three at bats off senior pitcher BJ Morris.

PV jumped on the scoreboard with a run in the first. Ty Knight walked to start the game and scored on David Flores one out single.

Woods walked to start the bottom half of the inning and scored on Levi Phillips opposite field single.

Jesse Williamson singled to start the top half of the second. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Colton Wimberly. Williamson scored on Cody Ward’s double for a 2-1 lead.

Jared Campbell doubled with one out in the bottom half of the second. He would score on Jace Brown’s two-out single tying the score at 2.

Pauls Valley had a big third inning. Flores walked to start the inning and Drake O’Bryant followed with a one-out walk.

Flores scored on Treston Williams double. O’Bryant and Williams would score on Williamson’s single as PV grabbed a 5-2 lead.

Wynnewood got one run back in the bottom of the third. Levi Phillips singled with one out and scored on Morris’s single.

After Williamson’s single in the third, Morris came into pitch and retired 11 straight Panthers.

Wynnewood would plate four runs in the fourth.

Campbell started the fourth with a one out single. Harmon Followed with a single and Brown loaded the bases for the Savages.

Woods hit a bases clearing single to right that gave WW a 6-5 lead. Durbecq singled home Woods as Wynnewood grabbed a 7-5 lead.

Wynnewood would bat around in the sixth as they plated six runs on six hits to end the game. Harmon singled to start the inning and Brown followed in a base on balls.

Woods singled home Harmon and Phillips followed by reaching on an error to load the bases. Durbecq singled home Brown and Woods and Morris singled home Woods.

Son singled to put runners on at the corners and after Son stole second both he and Morris scored on Campbell’s double ending the game with WW on top 14-5.

Morris picked up the win for the Savage who are now 1-3 on the year and 1-0 under new head coach Josh Willis.

Campbell led the way offensively for Wynnewood with three hits. Woods, Phillips, Morris and Harmon all had two hits each.

PV’s O’Bryant took the loss his first of the year. Williamson had two hits to lead the Panther offense. Williams and Ward both had doubles for the players with extra base hits.

Pauls Valley will look to regroup at home on Friday as they host Lone Grove and Elgin in a triangular.
