ECP faces Wewoka

marie@pvdemocrat.com — After knocking off the first of the big three W’s in district A-5, Elmore City-Pernell must now conquer the second W as Wewoka comes to town.

Elmore City shut out Wayne last week the first of the three W’s the Badgers will face in a row.

The Badgers have a huge test Friday at Wheeler Field, as the 3-1 Tigers will bring speed, speed and more speed.

“They are very athletic and can run,” ECP head coach Sam Sharp said.

Senior Bryton Washington leads the Tigers. He played quarterback for Wewoka last season but has been moved to tailback this year.

He has over 750 total yards this season, rushing for 582 while hauling in 174 yards in receiving. He has 9 touchdowns all together.

“They try to get him the ball as many times as they can,” Sharp said. “They will put him at I-back and let him run. They will split him out and throw the ball up to him. They will put him in motion as a decoy and let the quarterback run.”

Defensively the Badgers will be facing a 5-3 look. Trae Johnson, Craig Madkins and Erias Reynolds lead Wewoka on defense.

“It’s a pretty tough defense for a Wing-T team when they pack the box like they do,” Sharp said. “I think it’s a good challenge for us but I think our kids are up to it, especially playing at home in front of the home crowd.”

ECP will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Wheeler Field.
