The Pauls Valley Panthers play three of their final four games at Thompson Field and have a legitimate shot at winning three of those four games.
It all starts tonight when the Sulphur Bulldogs come to town for the annual Fall Break Thursday night game.
Sulphur is 2-4 on the year and 1-2 in district play after beating Atoka last week 44-0.
The Bulldogs made quick work of the 0-6 Wampus Cats scoring four times in the first quarter and twice more in the second. They scored four touchdowns on 10 offensive plays to open the game.
Sulphur is led by senior quarterback Ryan Rackley. As Rackley goes so do the Bulldogs.
Last week, Rackley had 5 carries for 116 yards and two touchdowns and was 3-of-4 passing for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Nate Johnson led the ground attack for the Bulldogs with 166 yards on 6 carries half of those resulting in a touchdown.
Sulphur relies heavily on their ground game but will also throw the ball around in their pistol formation.
Senior Keagan Davidson and sophomore Ray Trent are two of the many receivers that Rackley will eye in the Bulldog passing game.
Seniors Tye Brown, Charile Heitland and Caleb Duck anchor the offensive line. Those three along with junior Joey Sims and sophomore Martin Turrobiartes give Rackley time to throw but also create holes for the backs to run through.
The Bulldogs base defense is a 3-4 but will roll up there outside linebackers to give a 5-man look at the line of scrimmage. Steven Baker anchors the front three at nose guard.
Trevor Venegas and Tanner Watson man the middle of the defense at linebacker.
The Bulldog secondary is sophomore laden with Nate Johnson being the only junior in the back end.
For Pauls Valley to get their first win of the year, the must contain Rackley when Sulphur has the ball and put pressure on him when they do decide to pass.
Offensively, PV must continue to move the football and find the end zone early and not have to work from behind.
As always turnovers will be a key and the team with the fewest this week will likely post a ‘W’ in the win column.
