ECP travels to Bray for opener

Pauls Valley Democrat — The Elmore City-Pernell Badgers will open up the season down the road on 29 at Bray-Doyle.

The Donkeys haven’t had much success on the gridiron lately winning four games in the last five years. A new coach and a new outlook has Bray-Doyle looking to erase the memory of back-to-back 1-9 seasons and make a run at the playoffs.

“Bray is a lot better than they have been the last four years,” head coach Sam Sharp said. “Coach Bluejacket is dong a good job with them.”

New head coach Lee Bluejacket has a plethora of players with starting experience returning this season. He has seven starters returning on each side of the ball.

On offense, quarterback Cody Watson returns and will guide the I-Formation offense. He has a talented group of skill position players including returning starter Dallas Lyles.

“They will get in the I-Formation and run the ball right at you,” Sharp said. “We will probably see some empty back field stuff - we just have to adjust to it defensively.”

Seniors Greg Perez, Tanner Kautzman and Mason Beavers will anchor a veteran offensive line and look to give Watson the time he needs to get the ball down the field.

Linebackers Devyn Davis and Perez will be a big part of the Donkey’s 3-4 defense. Add Kautzman up front and Bray-Doyle has a solid front seven.

Rodney Hall and Lyles will be the ring leaders in the secondary.
