Prep team bounces back with victory

marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Pauls Valley Panthers prep team bounced back after a loss to the top team in the state on Tuesday with a 9-8 win over Stroud in a losers bracket game in the prep state baseball tournament in Weatherford.

Pauls Valley pounded out 15 hits scoring three runs in each of the second, fourth and fifth innings.

Breydan Jackson led the offensive charge with a 3 for 3 outing and three runs scored. Trenton Williams, Eddie Johnson and Keegan Williams each had two hits in the game.

Jackson did a great job on the mound also. Jackson went 6 2/3 innings striking out six and walking only one. Jeremy Sawyer came in and got the last out of the game to earn the save.

Stroud scored in the opening as the lead off batter Grant Powell popped up in between the left fielder, center fielder and second baseman. Powell would score on Wright’s double for a 1-0 lead.

PV scored three in the second. Tyler Butts singled to start the inning. Eddie Johnson would follow with a single and Colin Arie followed with a single the that scored Butts. Johnson got out at second but Jackson followed with a double that scored Arie. Moore would single home Jackson for a 3-1 lead.

Stroud took the lead in the top of the fourth off four run inning. Solomon’s single highlighted the rally.

PV regained the lead in the bottom half of the fourth. Arie was hit with a pitch and moved to second on Jackson’s single. Moore singled to load the bases. Kaleb Galaviz hit the ball back to the pitcher but the throw home went over the catchers head and Arie and Jackson both scored. Moore would score on Perry’s single giving the Panthers a 6-5 lead.

Pauls Valley would add three insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jackson would single with one out.

With two outs Galaviz would single sending Jackson to third. Perry would single home Jackson as Galaviz moved to third. Williams would then single home both Galaviz and Perry for a 9-5 lead.

Stroud added a single run in the sixth off as Solomon’s double and Cody’s single.

Stroud would make the game interesting in the seventh as Wright led off the inning with a home run. Blake would then single and score on Drew’s two out single.

Sawyer came in to finish up the game as he struck out Solomon on three straight pitches for the save and a 9-8 win.

PV now faces the Stigler and Cameron game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
