Pauls Valley Democrat
It was senior night in Pauls Valley, but it was the underclassmen that shined for the Lady Panthers in a 56-36 win over rival Wynnewood Tuesday.
Juniors Abigail Grimmett and Mary Beth Balcerak and sophomore Claire Grimmett combined for 34 points to help lead PV to their second straight win.
Pauls Valley jumped out early in the game and was never really challenged. The Lady Panther full court pressure gave the Lady Savages fits.
Seven different girls scored in the first quarter with senior Jessica Richardson leading the way with 3. PV shot 50-percent in the first quarter and opened up a double digit lead. Wynnewood closed the gap to 9 at the end of the quarter trailing 15-6.
PV cooled off in the shooting department in the second quarter hitting only 21-percent for the quarter but over half of those shots were second and third attempts off rebounds. PV continued to score though opening up a 16-point lead at the break.
Wynnewood showed life to start the second half cutting what was once a 20-point lead to single digits. Pauls Valley found their shooting touch late in the quarter behind four points from A. Grimmett and Tristan Ledbetter. PV opened up a 46-26 lead heading into the final quarter.
The two teams matched each other point-for-point in the final eight minutes, and PV walked away with a 20-point win.
A. Grimmett led the Lady Panthers with 16. C. Grimmett and Balcerak had 10 each. Kallie McMahan and Ledbetter both had 6, Richardson 5 and Jazmine Mudhar 2.
Burrough and Rushing led the Lady Savages with 9 each. Ray added 7, Carter 5, and Williams and Gary had one each.
