Savages play final non-district game

marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Wynnewood Savages will finish up their non-district schedule this week as they host Community Christian School, a private school between Norman and Moore.

“It’s kind of odd, we don’t know a lot about them,” Wynnewood coach Brad Osteen said. “We’ve got tape on them and seen them scrimmage a little bit. But they are not a part of the OSSAA so we haven’t seen them play a lot of teams that we are used to seeing.”

Community Christian has had some success in the Christian Schools Association winning the 2011 State Title.

The Royals run a ‘Split 6’ defense. “I haven’t seen that defense since I was in Texas,” Osteen said. “They have a 6-5, 220 defensive end that’s a good looking player and their outside linebacker is very talented.”

Offensively, the Royals like to spread the field and run the ball.

“They quarterback and tailback make them go,” Osteen said. “The quarterback is very shifty and tailback has good speed.”

This is a good final non-district game for the Savages. Last year they had a bye week in the fourth week of the season.

“This is very important for us to play this week,” Osteen said. “Last year we had an open date and didn’t play and this gives us a chance to grow.”
