The No. 1 team in Class A, the Wynnewood Savages, flexed their muscles again Friday night in their first road game of the year. Wynnewood’s defense came up big on the road and for the second straight week got a shut out as they blanked Healdton 62-0.
Jace Brown had 207 yards passing and three touchdowns while Trey Knowles had 180 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Savages offense.
Knowles scored his first touchdown early in the first on a 37-yard run. He followed that up with a 5-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead.
Brown then got into the scoring act hitting Peter Carter with a 60-yard touchdown pass.
Levi Phillips would intercept a Healdton pass giving Wynnewood the ball in Bulldog territory. The coaching staff reward Phillips as he caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Brown giving WW a 28-0 lead.
Knowles would get back in the scoring column late in the first half as he broke through the line and went 50 yards to paydirt.
Phillips and Brown would hook up once again just before the half this time on a 59 yard touchdown pass as Wynnewood took a 42-0 lead at the break.
On the first play of the second half, Knowles got free again this time going the distance from 68 yards out for his fourth touchdown of the night.
Carter would score his second touchdown of the night on a 48-yard run and Pete Knowles had a 62-yard touchdown run to wrap up the scoring for the Savages in the third quarter.
Wynnewood’s defense didn’t allow Healdton to get on track anytime during the game and the Savages recorded their second straight shutout with a 62-0 win.
The Savages will take this Friday off as they couldn’t find anyone to schedule a game with. They will open up district play next Friday night as they travel to Maysville to face the Warriors.
