O’Bryant strikes out 10 in Panther win

marie@pvdemocrat.com — Pauls Valley senior Drake O’Bryant pitched seven strong innings to pick up his first win of the year, beating Davis 5-1.

O’Bryant gave up one earned run on two hits. He had 10 strikeouts and walked three batters, one of which scored.

Two-run home runs by freshman Devin Baker and sophomore Eddie Johnson provided the offense for the Panthers in the win.

The Panthers took the lead in the first. O’Bryant hit a blooper that landed between the left fielder, center fielder and shortstop as he reached second.

Tanner Hamilton bunted him over to third. Baker singled with two outs scoring O’Bryant giving PV a 1-0 lead.

The game would stay at 1-0 until the fifth when Davis’ Hayes walked with one-out.

He moved to second on a ground out. Karlik singled to left scoring Hayes and tying the game at one.

The Panthers would answer in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, Treston Williams singled down the line in left. Williams moved to second and Baker then hit a two-strike pitch over the scoreboard in left field for a 3-1 lead.

Tyler Butts would lead off the bottom of the sixth with a double to right-center. Johnson would hit the second pitch he saw over the left field fence giving PV a 5-1 lead and win.

O’Bryant would get the final six straight batters out in the final two innings, four of which were strikeouts.

After losing two games over the weekend Pauls Valley was able to bounce back with a huge win.

Baker finished 3-for-3 on the evening with 3 RBI’s. He was the only player with multiple hits.

Pauls Valley hosts Tecumseh Tuesday evening at the Wacker Park Complex.
