Highly rated Minco stops Warriors

marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Maysville Warriors knew they had to slow down everything back Jacob Overton for the Minco Bulldogs. They slowed him down with only one touchdown but Ringo Garret picked up the slack with two touchdown runs to lead Minco to a 35-7 win over Maysville.

Minco’s defense proved to be the difference as they shut down the explosive Warrior offense holding them to 61 total yards. Trey Willoughby had 26 yards passing on 5-18 and the Warrior backs had 35 yards on 11 carries. Willoughby had 18 of those yards on the ground and Dalton Elmore added 16 more.

Minco scored early in the game as Overton bounced into the end zone from 5 yards out. Hunter Jones would added a 1-yard touchdown run in the second to give Minco a 14-0 halftime lead.

Garrett would score twice in the third quarter on runs of 40 and 11. A safety by Black Schneberger as he tackled a Warrior in the end zone game Minco a 29-0 lead.

The Warriors would strike paydirt in the fourth quarter as Willoughby dove into the end zone from two yards out.

Tucker Halsted would score late for Minco to make the final 35-7.

Defensively, Dalton Elmore had a huge night with 20 tackles including a sack. Zach Ashbey added 14 tackles and had an interception. Jonathaon Akins and Dakota Henry both had 12 tackles each. Maysville will play Wewoka Friday night in their first district game.
