marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Elmore City-Pernell Badgers opened up the 2013 season with a huge win over the Bray-Doyle Donkeys as did this week’s opponent Marietta against Wilson.

Elmore-Pernell will have their hands full against an experienced Marietta Indian squad that returns nine starters on both sides of the ball.

“Marietta is an improved team,” head coach Sam Sharp said. “They are running a different style of offense then they have been running. This offense fits their personal better.”

Leading the way for the Indians is senior quarterback Chaz Sanders. He has guided this team the past couple of years and even into the playoffs a year ago. Marietta is looking for him to lead them past the first round this.

A talented backfield with seniors Cash Lang and Tyler Tatums gives the Indian offense several options. Add into the mix Jordan McCarroll (6-4 senior) on the outside and Marietta has weapons all over the field to contend with.

Up front the Indians are inexperienced but have a lot of size and depth.

Seniors Ceasor Gomes and Ezequiel Sanchez are the anchors in the front seven at linebacker. Both like to “fly” to the football and once there they’re not afraid to make a hit.

“We have to go out and block up front and tackle it always come back to blocking and tackling the football,” Sharp said about winning game number two. “We have to eliminate mistakes and turnovers. We need to control the ball, control the clock. If we can put those things together we should have a good night.”
