Tornadoes touch down in SW Oklahoma

NORMAN — As many as six tornadoes touched down in Comanche County and Lawton on Wednesday.

Four people were trapped inside a mobile home in Elgin that got knocked off its foundation, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

Hail from 1⁄4 to 13⁄4 inches was reported in western Oklahoma.

Tornado sirens in south Norman sounded just after 9 p.m., but there were no reports of tornadoes touching down in the area.

A family was rescued from an area with high water around 9:30 p.m. near 48th Avenue Northwest and Robinson Street.

The Norman Fire Department pulled a father and his children, ages 7 and 1, from their car after their vehicle got stuck in the high water, Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said.

Nobody was injured and the fire department took the family home. The area is notorious for high water after heavy rainfall.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
