NORCE legislative study tomorrow in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY — A small panel of legislators will meet Thursday at the State Capitol to discuss the closure of two facilities housing the developmentally disabled.

Northern Oklahoma Resource Center of Enid and its sister facility Southern Oklahoma Resource Center in Pauls Valley are slated to shut down over the next two years. Enid state Rep. Mike Jackson requested the legislative study to hear testimony about safety nets for the residents and a comparison to how other states handled shutdowns.

Speakers will include a representative from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Dr. Mike Peck, Marcellus Bell, Dr. Frank Apple and Ryan Whitlow. The presentations will represent the perspectives of DHS, physicians and family members of residents, according to a press release.

The meeting will be on the fourth floor of the State Capitol in committee room 412C. Jackson's portion of the hearing begins at 1 p.m.
