Fatality wreck still has questions

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Authorities are still trying to figure what caused a motorist to drive off a road resulting in an accident in western Garvin County that claimed his life.

Killed in the one-vehicle accident early Friday morning was 53-year-old Lowell Ballew of Watonga.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report show Ballew was alone while driving a 2002 GMC pickup.

The truck was traveling northbound on state Highway 76 when at a listed time of 1:22 a.m. Feb. 7 it went left of the roadway’s center line.

At a site about 9.3 miles south of Lindsay the vehicle went off the road to the left as it traveled 152 feet before striking a tree.

Ballew was pinned in the truck for an undetermined time before he was extricated by Lindsay firefighters.

He was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries sustained in the accident.

The OHP report shows it remains unknown what caused the driver to take the vehicle off the roadway. An investigation into the accident is continuing.

The report added Ballew was not wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck.

Investigating the accident was Trooper Chase Miller of the Garvin/Murray County Detachment.

Others assisting at the scene were Garvin County deputies and Lindsay E.M.S.

  • ‘Rio 2’ average effort, but still a family win

Though Hollywood will never truly abandon milking characters for franchises well past the expiration date, I will say that even the most mediocre series seems to be getting at least more tolerable than in the past.
