Panthers sweep Comets

15-0 spurt carries Panthers — A 15-0 run late in the second quarter gave the Pauls Valley Panthers what they needed for a 55-45 win over the Dickson Comets Saturday at the Panther Gymnasium.

Shedrick Murray, Carter Tate and Greg Balcerak each had two baskets and Treston Williams added a traditional three-point play as PV turned an 18-15 deficit into a 30-18 lead. Pauls Valley had to overcome the hot shooting of the Comets Nail who had Dickson’s first eight points. He cooled off after that but King kept them in the game finishing with a game high 24 points.

Williams kept PV close after Nail’s quick outburst as he scored 8 first quarter points to keep the Panthers with striking distance at five.

The Panthers scored the first four points of the second quarter to close the gap to one. Dickson’s Bean hit a jumper to push the lead back to three but the 15-0 run started with Williams three-point play and ended with Murray’s layup. In all PV outscored Dickson 21-4 in the quarter to open up a 32-20 lead.

Dickson chipped away at the lead early in the second half cutting it to 6. Tate had five points in a 10-1 run that finished up the third quarter with PV on top 44-29.

PV opened up a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter before King went on an 11-0 run of his own to cut the lead to six with just over a minute to go. It became a game of free throws from there and PV won that battle hitting 6-of-10 in the late while Dickson only hit two-of-six late giving the Panthers a 10-point win.

The Panthers return to the court tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Washington and will play at 6:30 p.m. on Friday as PV hosts Tuttle in a homecoming battle.

  • ‘Rio 2’ average effort, but still a family win

Though Hollywood will never truly abandon milking characters for franchises well past the expiration date, I will say that even the most mediocre series seems to be getting at least more tolerable than in the past.
