Derek Tyler Chaffin

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Derek Tyler Chaffin, 28, of Moore passed from this life on March 19, 2013. He was born to Donnie Sharp and Angelia White in Pauls Valley, Okla., on March 10, 1985.

He grew up and attended school in Pauls Valley, graduating in 2003. Aafter graduating he joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard in March 2005, serving for 7 years as an Artillery man and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

He was activated to Hurricane Katrina, Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. He met his wife on their deployment to Iraq in 2006 and got married on October 10, 2009. He was currently attending the University of Oklahoma to finish his Bachelor’s degree in Aviation.

Derek’s hobbies included flying (pilot), fishing and playing the guitar. His passion was flying, his family and helping others.

He is preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Don and Judy Sharp, Rosie and Odessa Rozell; and his uncle, Jerry Abel.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen, of the home; parents, Donnie and Shannon Sharp of Pauls Valley, Okla., and Angie White of Sulphur, Okla.; brothers, Logan Sharp and Landon Sharp of Pauls Valley, Okla., and Kyle Chaffin of Moore, Okla.; nephews, Landon Chaffin and Zane Chaffin of Moore, Okla.; grandparents, Bob and Phyllis Myers of Sulpher, Okla., and David and Kathy White of Norman, Okla.; mother and father-in-law, Lynne and Kenneth Oliver Jr. of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and sister-in-law, Tammy Endicott of Ramona, Okla.

Services were Monday, March 25, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Moore. Condolences may be sent to www.MooreFuneralandCremation.com.
