Studio realization of PV photographer’s dream

emann@pvdemocrat.com — Making one’s dream come true isn’t always dependent on when we are ready to take that first big leap.

For Pauls Valley based photographer Callie Henry, that meant having her own studio.

While she was content to continue a majority of her photo work outdoors, that all changed recently. An opportunity for her own place came up through a business she had already started to call home.

“It was definitely a long term goal, but it all kind of happened at once,” said Henry. “I really love it…thankful I get to do it.”

Said opportunity was taking over what was “The Nook,” a gift centered business known as the Corner Market. Original owner, Debbie Mott, had given her a spot for some time to work during the day.

Though Mott will still be around for appliqué and embroidery, an agreement was eventually reached about a month ago.

It meant a month of converting the building to hold a studio as well as reformat the store. Henry said she did not need all of the space just to take pictures.

She saw a shortage of services available for young kids and baby related photography. She will continue to have an overall family theme.

Henry will also sell clothing for them as well as act as a place for activities like craft classes and even child/infant CPR. It won’t hurt her own plans to capture the first images of her own child either, which she is expecting this September.

“I needed a space…I wanted to build a studio, but didn’t want a large space,” said Henry. “I went with what I thought was a need.”

Working with cameras for a living has only been a full time profession for the past couple of years. It was a part time gig she started while working as an LPN for elderly patients seven years ago.

Her love of the profession started when she lived in California and took classes with a professional photographer. She eventually fell in love with the art form and as her skills improved she started charging for her service. It has grown from there.

Henry is a member of the PV Chamber of Commerce and plans on being as involved as possible with the downtown area.

She primarily works with Nikon cameras. She said the best part of doing what she does is sharing in a precious moment that is tangible and lasts for years.

“It gives me a creative outlet,” said Henry, who is from Lexington and lives here with her husband Brandon Henry. “It’s the combination of working with people, getting to be creative,”

“I love working with little kids and seniors. You get to create a memory for them, be a part of that forever.”

The store, located at 204 S. Chickasaw, is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

She can be reached at 405-207-4879, at her website www.calliehenry.com or on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CallieHenryPhotography.
