Alma Eula Grissom

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Alma Eula Burkes, 101, was born April 20, 1913 at Wetumka, Okla., and passed away May 10, 2014 at her home in Wynnewood. She was the eighth and final child of Andrew Jackson Burkes and Eulalie (McRae) Burkes.

In 1939 she married Elba R. Grissom. In 1942, they bought an 80-acre farm and were living there when their first child, Michael Andrew, was born in 1945. In 1946, they moved to Wynnewood, where Elba had been hauling oil into and out of the refinery. In 1948, another son, Patrick Elba, was born in the old hospital downtown.

In 1977, they both retired and moved from California back into their home in Wynnewood - the same home they had owned since 1951.

Services were held. Tuesday, May 13 at the Church of Christ in Wynnewood. Burial followed at Wetumka Cemetery in Wetumka.

Services are under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Wynnewood. Go to to send online condolences.

    Sybil Fern Leach of Wynnewood, Oklahoma was born to Al Bonnie and Donnie May (Boyd) Vanderburg on December 31, 1916 in Hot Springs, Arkansas and passed from this life on July 28, 2014 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 97 years.
