Helen Davenport

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Our precious and beautiful Mom, Helen Davenport, 91, was called “Home” to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013.

She was born Nov. 1, 1922 in Gainesville, Texas to Kate and LaRoy Bridges where, as a young girl, she was known as “Little Red.”

She graduated from Pauls Valley High School “Go Panthers!!” in 1941 and was a member of Eastern Star. She was a writer for the “Valley High Times” newspaper.

On Christmas Day 1944 she married the love of her life, Bill Davenport.

Our Mom lived life to the fullest, and never met a stranger. Helen was a life-long member of Putnam City Christian Church and was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, her community and a member of the American Cancer Society “Relay for Life.” She contributed to many local charities, particularly to the benefit of children and animals.

She worked many years in high-end retail for Titche-Goettinger and Rothchilds. Her zest for life included enjoyment of travel, theater, arts, hosting parties for her “fans” and spending quality time with her two pumpkins “Kathy and Chris,” family and a multitude of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill Davenport, and siblings Mary Elizabeth Irwin and LaRoy Bridges.

Survivors include her children Chris and Kathy Davenport, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Viewing will be Friday, 9 am. to 9 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mercer-Adams, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK 73008.

Her “Celebration of Life” will be on Saturday, December 7 at 10 a.m. at Putnam City Christian Church, 4215 N. Grove Ave., OKC 73122.

Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, OK, 1901 S Chickasaw St (US Highway 77) 73075.

Condolences may be offered at www.mercer-adams.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen Davenport’s memory to the Children’s Center, 6800 N.W. 39th Expressway Bethany, OK 73008.

This strong woman of Faith, who defines “Home” to her children, will live on in our hearts for a lifetime.
