Lonnie Gene Parker

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Lonnie Gene Parker of Pauls Valley was born March 7, 1950 in Alturas, California to Floyd John Parker and Melba Lee Wright Parker. He passed away January 6, 2014 in Norman, Okla., at the age of 63.

Lonnie will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered.

He grew up in Fremont, Calif., greatly enjoying being a pest to his sisters. He graduated from Irvington High School in May 1968.

Lonnie moved to Pauls Valley in the summer of 1972 and began working for Coca-Cola. While making deliveries he met his first wife, C. Fay Blevins, and fell in love. Lonnie and Fay married on July 4, 1974. In the next few years he became the proud and loving father of Michelle and Jennifer Parker.

In 1982 he married his second wife, Kelly. He adopted her three children, happily adding Brandy, Justin and Jason to his family. He moved to Allen, Okla., where he lived for the next 12 years.

In 1997 he moved back to Pauls Valley and for the next 16 years made his home here until his death.

He loved coming home from driving his 18-wheeler and being a father, grandfather and papa to his numerous great-nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed drinking coffee with his daughters and Fay Blevins Parker, who became his coffee buddy, and going to the local truck stops to eat even though he wasn’t on the road.

When he retired he had planned to own a 1965 Ford Mustang to cruise around in, do some flower gardening in his backyard and have a small cabin on an acre or two for his weekend man-cave.

He worked for Con-way Truck Load/CFI for nearly 26 years as a cross country truck driver. He very much loved driving his 18-wheeler on the open road and could easily recite the best routes to take when traveling from one city to the next.

In the nearly 26 years he drove for Con-way Truck Load/CFI, he accumulated 2,974,347 miles on the road. He was very proud of his accomplishment and like to mention it often.

In his honor, Con-way Truck Load is awarding Lonnie an Honorary 3 Million Miler Award.

Con-way’s director of safety, Chris Schulhonic, described Lonnie as “a hellava hand with an exemplary safety record” and said that “if he had a whole fleet of Lonnie Parker’s he’d be without a job.” Lonnie would be beaming with pride and happiness at Chris’ description of him.

Lonnie was preceded in death by both his parents, Floyd and Melba Parker; his brother Jimmie Edward Parker; and his sister Peggy Parker Brixey and brother-in-law Larry Brixey.

Surviving family include daughter Michelle D. Parker and mother Fay Blevins Parker of Pauls Valley, daughter Jennifer K. Parker and grandsons Johnathon K. Summers and Kayden R. Summers of Pauls Valley, daughter Brandy and her husband Mark and their daughters of Ada, son Justin Parker and family of Ada, son Jason Parker of Ada, three sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy L. Parker Maxwell and husband Jimmy Maxwell of Diane, Texas, Stella M. Parker Findley and husband Gene Findley of Saratoga, Calif., and Brenda Parker Van Cleve and husband Peter Van Cleve of San Jacinto, Calif., as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins, relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held Monday, January 13 at Higher Ground Church in Pauls Valley, officiated by Pastor Andy Davidson.

Offering Prayer

Taking a moment to pray before the offering, First United Methodist Church Pastor Mark Watson shared some very good news about the kids who participated in their Vacation Bible School recently. The kids collected donations from their peers every evening managed to raise just short of $1,000 for clean water in India.
