Top teachers get their day

bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — One more round of good marks has led to Pauls Valley’s top teachers being named at each local school.

That means teachers at each of the PV sites has been honored as the best at their individual schools.

Given the nod for the current 2013-2014 school year are Ainslee Davis at Jefferson Early Learning Center, Charla Forrester at Jackson Elementary, Sandra Alexander at Lee Elementary, Churee Chaffin at the junior high and Drew Etheredge at Pauls Valley High School.

School Superintendent Darsha Huckabaa, a former teacher here, knows how big a deal it is to be honored as the top teacher of the year at a school.

“It’s truly an honor for these teachers to be named teacher of the year at their schools,” Huckabaa said.

“It’s a big honor because they’re elected by their peers.”

The way the process works is each teacher receives a ballot with the names of all teachers at the different schools.

Votes are counted by the school’s principal and that site’s representatives on the Professional Development Committee (PDC).

Once the winners are selected each one then fills out what is described as an “intensive” application, which will eventually go to the PDC for a more thorough review.

From there committee members vote on which of the five will be PV’s district teacher of the year.

That winner is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Jan. 20.

Now a closer look at this year’s site winners.
