Local charities using rodeo to raise cancer awareness

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — The 69th annual Heritage Days Rodeo promises plenty of activities at the Pauls Valley Roundup Club Arena.

The big event will goes for three nights starting at 8 p.m. tonight through Saturday, June 28.

The always impressive rodeo parade is at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Two local charities are using the event to raise awareness for childhood cancer.

It will benefit the families of two Garvin County children, Abby Gamble and Tanner Holman, who are battling cancer.

It is put together by Team Gold Buckle and Rodeo For a Reason, and is represented by co-founder Kendra Dickson from Aubrey, Texas.

She will compete in the barrel racing and wear gold in support of childhood cancer awareness.

The team’s goal for 2014 is to make wearing gold as big as wearing pink.

As a result, this Saturday night performance will be “Gold Night” at the rodeo.

Rodeo contestants and spectators are encouraged to wear some type of gold colored clothing to the rodeo.

They will be selling raffle tickets that night on the rodeo grounds for a chance to win a breast collar and other items.
