More needed on fatal bridge jump — Authorities are still not ready to release the name of a woman who they believe jumped off a Pauls Valley area bridge to take her own life.

The incident took place this past weekend as a woman was seen by a witness last Sunday, Feb. 16 stopping her car, getting out and then jumping off the U.S. Highway 77 bridge over the Washita River just north of PV.

According to the Garvin County Sheriff’s Department, it was in the morning hours Sunday, just after 9:30 a.m., when the emergency call was received.

“This office received a phone call stating a female subject drove to the Washita River bridge and stopped in the middle of the road,” Undersheriff Jim Mullett said on Wednesday.

“She exited the vehicle and jumped off the bridge,” he said, adding another motorist stopped and saw the whole incident as the unnamed woman jumped to her death.

It was this witness who made the emergency 911 phone call that resulted in an ambulance and county deputies being dispatched to the scene.

The woman was taken to Pauls Valley General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at the emergency room.

No description was given of the woman’s injuries as it’s estimated she fell about 60 feet down into the river bed below the bridge.

“She fell on the river bed sand and rock,” Mullett said.

“We’re waiting for the (medical examiner’s) report but we believe it’s a suicide.”

As for the fatal incident, an investigation is continuing as deputies are searching for answers on why the woman jumped from the bridge.

“We’re still investigating that situation; the hours before her jump and what led up to this,” said the undersheriff.

“We’re talking to people who knew her, family members, events leading up to her death.”

  • ‘Rio 2’ average effort, but still a family win

Though Hollywood will never truly abandon milking characters for franchises well past the expiration date, I will say that even the most mediocre series seems to be getting at least more tolerable than in the past.
