Primary date is now for voters

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — The voter registration deadline is now just one day away for those looking to cast ballots during the next big election in just under a month.

This year’s primary election is set for Tuesday, June 24.

For those needing to get registered or make changes to their registration the deadline is Friday, May 30.

Persons who are United States citizens, residents of Oklahoma and at least 18 years old, even those who will turn 18 between now and June 24, may apply to become registered voters, said Garvin County Election Board Secretary Doylene Cunningham.

The deadline is important for those who have never been registered to vote, those not currently registered in the county of their residence and those needing to change any information on their voter registration.

Voters will need to fill out and mail an Oklahoma Voter Registration Application form in time for it to be postmarked no later than midnight Friday, May 30.

Forms are available at the county Election Board office in the county courthouse, tag agencies and they can be downloaded from www.ok.gov/elections online.

The one Garvin County level race set for the June primary is District 3’s county commissioner post.

Longtime Commissioner Johnny Mann is seeking his seventh term in office.

Mike DeArman of Paoli is looking to challenge Mann for the office.

Also set for that election is a race between Santee Wade and Stephanie Butenhof for the No. 2 post on the Stratford Board of Trustees.

The last day to request mailed absentee ballots for the primary is June 18.

Later in the summer a new election has been set for a school bond issue for the Elmore City-Pernell district.

The election is Aug. 26 for the ECP bond issue totaling just under $3 million.

The exact total is $2.275 million for the issue that if approved by at least 60 percent would pay for the construction of an ECP middle school building.
