Panthers roll to win

marie@pvdemocrat.com — It took a couple of trips up and down the floor for the Pauls Valley Panthers to get a bucket, but once they did they didn’t look back beating Bridge Creek 51-33 Tuesday at the Panther Gymnasium.

Treston Williams and Matt Perry hit back-to-back bumpers in the lane to give PV a quick 4-0 lead. After Girad hit a three pointer for Bridge Creek, Williams and Perry struck again with back-to-back three pointers and PV never looked back.

The Panthers would build a 10-point lead in the first quarter and the lead would stay around that mark until early in the second when the Bobcats cut the lead to five after hitting back-to-back jumpers.

Sophomore Greg Balcerak came to life late in the first half and into the second half hitting six straight points for the Panthers.

Matt Perry hit is second three pointer of the game in the middle of the third quarter and Balcerak followed with a jumper in the lane after pulling down his seventh rebound as PV built a double digit lead for good.

The lead grew to as many as 20 after a Shedrick Murray three pointer and a pair of free throws by Garrett Readnour early in the fourth. Pauls Valley would run off the final couple of minutes in their four corners offense and finish up with an 18-point win.

Perry led the way with 13 points and Williams added 11 for the Pauls Valley players in double figures. Balcerack had 9 points and 8 rebounds and Tate added four assists. Girad had 14 for the only Bobcat in double figures.

PV will now begin a long road trip that will have them playing 11 of their next 12 games on the road. The trip begins Thursday in Marietta in the Marietta Tournament. PV opens play in the tournament against Heladton at 5:30 p.m.

  • ‘Rio 2’ average effort, but still a family win

Though Hollywood will never truly abandon milking characters for franchises well past the expiration date, I will say that even the most mediocre series seems to be getting at least more tolerable than in the past.
