Police chase hits city streets

bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — It was a scene right out of a TV show or movie as the driver hit the gas pedal and tried to flee after moments earlier being stopped by a Pauls Valley police officer.

In the end the vehicle didn’t get far and both individuals inside were taken into custody as authorities soon learned why they attempted to escape after what at first looked to be a routine traffic stop.

The big chase on the streets of PV came early Friday morning, Jan. 10, after a white four-door Buick, while traveling eastbound, was stopped in the 400 block of West Grant because a front headlight was not working.

A report released by PV Police shows 27-year-old Kimberly Sulek of Plano, Texas was driving the vehicle, while a passenger was Kirk Mullins, 21.

The twists and turns began when it was learned Sulek did not have a valid driver’s license, either in Texas or Oklahoma.

The same was true for Mullins, whose identification at first couldn’t be confirmed.

With officers standing on both sides Mullins was instructed to get out of the vehicle.

Instead he was heard saying “go” as Sulek sped away from the scene turning the car west onto Paul Avenue.

The chase was on from there as two police officers and a Garvin County deputy at the traffic stop to help were all in their patrol cars with sirens sounding in pursuit of the fleeing suspects.

According to authorities, the vehicle did not stop at several traffic signs as speeds moved up to around 50 mph on the city streets.

The vehicle finally did stop in a residential area in southern Pauls Valley, where Mullins got out of the car and took off running down Denson Drive.

With an officer chasing him on foot, Mullins moments later stopped and put his hands up as he was quickly taken into custody.

Officers later said Mullins claimed he fled because he had such drug paraphernalia as a pipe and scales inside the vehicle.

Back at the vehicle, Sulek was arrested without incident. Both individuals were later booked into the county jail facility.

  • ‘Rio 2’ average effort, but still a family win

Though Hollywood will never truly abandon milking characters for franchises well past the expiration date, I will say that even the most mediocre series seems to be getting at least more tolerable than in the past.
