PV beats Washington

marie@pvdemocrat.com — Despite only three hits the Pauls Valley Panthers opened the Sulphur Tournament with a 4-2 win over Washington.

Pauls Valley’s offense sputtered all night but they got seven strong innings on the mound from Drake O’Bryant. The left handed senior gave up 2 runs, 1 earned on four hits. He struck out 12 and walked seven.

Pauls Valley scored in the opening inning. Tanner Hamilton walked with one out and moved to second on Devin Baker’s single.

David Flores loaded the bases after being hit with a pitch. Tyler Butts ground ball was booted and Hamilton scored for a 1-0 lead.

Pauls Valley added a couple of insurance runs in the fourth. Flores walked to start the inning and with Noah Meave running for him stole second.

Meave moved to third on Butts’ ground ball out. Eddie Johnson reached on an error scoring Meave and then Johnson scored on an error for a 3-0 lead.

Three Washington singles would put the Warriors on the board in the fifth inning.

Butts would reach on an error in the sixth. He would move to second on a sac bunt by Johnson. He moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Matt Perry’s single giving PV a 4-1 lead.

Washington would load the basses in the sixth with two outs. O’Bryant walked home a run but got out of the inning by striking out the side giving him a 4-2 win.

PV beat Sulphur 8-7 in the semifinals on Friday to reach Saturday’s finals at 2 p.m.

A state crew was busy working to repair a large hole in the southbound lane of Chickasaw Street in Pauls Valley. Traffic was diverted around the work site near Joy Avenue during the day.
