PV falls to Tecumseh

marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Pauls Valley Panthers jumped out to an early lead in Tuesday game with Tecumseh. The Panthers couldn’t hold on as the Savages scored two in the third and two more in the fifth for a 4-2 win.

For the second straight game Devin Baker hit a two-run home run as PV took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Tyler Butts would follow later in the inning with a single that loaded the bases with two outs. But those two first inning hits would be the only two allowed by Smiley of Tecumseh. He would shut out the Panthers the rest of the way and pick up the win.

Smiley finished with a complete games. He allowed only the two runs on two hits and he struck out 10 while walking two.

Eddie Johnson had a good outing for the Panthers but couldn’t get the backing defensively that he needed for the win. Johnson gave up four runs, two earned, on eight hits. He struck out four and didn’t walk anyone.

David Flores pitched three strong innings in relief. He didn’t give up a hit or run in his outing. He struck out three and didn’t walk anyone.

Drake O’Bryant started off the game for Pauls Valley by getting hit with a pitch. Tanner Hamilton bunted him around to second.

Treston Williams grounded out as O’Bryant took third.

Baker followed and fell behind 1-2 in the count. He got a pitch he liked knocking it out of the park for the second times in two games.

Caleb Jones then reached on an error and Flores walked. Butts then singled to load the bases. Smiley got out of the inning with a strikeout but PV had a 2-0 lead.

Tecumseh tied the game in the top of the third. Pierce reached second on the first of two errors in the inning.

He stole third and scored on an error cutting the lead to 2-1.

With two outs Sanchez doubled and Mars followed with an RBI double as Tecumseh tied the score at 2-2.

Pierce singled in the fifth to get the Savages going again. He stole second and was bunted over to third by Hull who reached on an error. Trammel singled home Pierce and Sanchez singled home Hull giving Tecumseh a 4-2 lead.

Flores relieved Johnson at that point and retired the next nine batters he faced.

Smiley struck out six of the final seven batters to preserve the win for Tecumseh.

Pauls Valley will travel to OKC to the Brick Friday night to face rival Purcell. The first-pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
