Baker, Flores go deep in win

marie@pvdemocrat.com — Freshman Devin Barker was one hit shy of the cycle Tuesday as the Pauls Valley Panthers beat Little Axe 10-2.

Baker was 3-for-3 with a single, double and a home run and had four RBI’s to lead the Panther offense.

David Flores also had multiple hits with two including a home run. The two players combined for five of the Panthers 8 hits.

Flores did a great job on the mound giving up two runs on two hits in five innings of work. He struck out two and walked only one.

Little Axe scored in the first inning off a couple of errors and a sacrifice fly.

Pauls Valley responded with three runs of their ow in the bottom half of the first.

Drake O’Bryant led off the inning as he was hit by a pitch. Tanner Hamilton reached on an error to put runners on at the corners Baker got his first hit of the game with one out in the first driving the ball out of the park for a three-run home run and a 3-1 lead.

The Panthers would add two more in the bottom of the second inning. Austin Foxworth led off the inning with a single. He stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. Matt Perry then singled scoring Foxworth.

Perry would steal second and mover to third on a ground ball by Tyler Butts. He would score on O’Bryant’s ground out as PV took a 5-1 lead.

Pauls Valley would increase their lead by adding a run in the third. Treston Williams would walk to start the inning and moved to second on Baker’s single. Flores would double scoring Williams and giving PV a 6-1 lead.

Little Axe scored a run in the fifth off a single and error and then a sacrifice fly cutting the PV lead to 6-2.

Pauls Valley would end the game in the bottom half of the fifth with four runs. William walked to start the inning and Baker doubled to put runners at second and third. Flores cleared the bases with a shot over the right field fence.

With one out, Foxworth was hit by a pitch. He stole second and third and scored the game ending run on Butts’ ground out.

Pauls Valley will look to keep their current streak alive as they host tradition rich Byng Friday at Wacker Park.
