J.W. Peters

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — J.W. Peters of Elmore City, Oklahoma was born to Tom and Myrtle (Travis) Peters on October 10, 1927 in Roff, Oklahoma and passed from this life on April 21, 2014 in Plano, Texas at the age of 86 years.

J.W. grew up and attended school at Prairie View. Mr. Peters worked as a farmer and in 1947 went to work for Kerr-McGee in 1947 gauging tanks and retired in 1992 as a shift supervisor.

After retiring, J.W. went to auctions and would re-handle hammers, shovels, and rakes. He also enjoyed working with antique tools and made custom cabinets.

J.W. built his first home in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. With a wide array of skills, J.W. assisted with the building of the Beaty Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a 32nd degree mason with the Wynnewood Lodge.

In his spare time he enjoyed collecting antique implement tools. The highlights of his life were his family, grandkids and his church.

Mr. Peters is survived by his wife Virginia Peters of the home; sons: Larry Peters and wife Sherry of Gunter, Texas, and Rick Peters and wife Lynn of Rowlett, Texas; 1 step-son: Mike Brooks and wife Donna of Ringling, Oklahoma; 1 brother: Von Peters of Thomas, Oklahoma; 1 sister: Juanita Baden of Thomas, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren: Tracie Davis, Tammy Cavender, and Melissa Peters Allgood; 5 great-grandchildren: Justin Davis, Tanner Davis, Kelsey Cavender, Taylor Cavender and Harper Allgood; and a host of step-grandchildren.

Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his wife Irene (Lutts) Peters in 1999, parents Tom and Myrtle Peters, 2 brothers and 7 sisters.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, April 23rd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wooster Funeral Home in Pauls Valley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Beaty Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Friedl and Rev. Stephen Reid officiating.

Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, Oklahoma under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.

A state crew was busy working to repair a large hole in the southbound lane of Chickasaw Street in Pauls Valley. Traffic was diverted around the work site near Joy Avenue during the day.
