Panthers get back on winning track

marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Pauls Valley Panthers bounced back from a loss to highly rated Byng with a 6-3 win over Dibble Tuesday night.

Pauls Valley was no hit on Monday but had seven hits, two by Devin Baker, in Tuesday’s win.

Drake O’Bryant had a good game on the bump giving up one run on one hit in four innings of work. He had four strike outs while walking only one.

David Flores pitched the final three innings giving up two runs on five hits. He struck out six in the game while not walking anyone.

Dibble took an early 1-0 lead as Johnson reached on a one-out errors and later scored on a passed ball.

The Panthers responded with four in the bottom half of the innings. O’Bryant singled to start the inning and moved to second as Tanner Hamilton reached on error.

Baker doubled with one out scoring both O’Bryant and Hamilton for a 2-0 lead.

Flores followed with a walk putting runners on at the corners. Nick Sager who was running for Flores stole second and both runners scored on Austin Foxworth’s single.

The game remained 4-1 until the fifth. A two-out rally by Dibble netted a second run.

Johnson singled to start the rally and Dibble loaded the bases as Smith and Reyes both singled. Johnson scored on an error cutting the lead to 4-2.

The Panthers picked up two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth. Baker singled to start the innings. Flores doubled moving Baker to third.

Caleb Jones singled home Baker as Noah Meave who was running for Flores moved to third.

Foxworth grounded out to short scoring Meave and giving PV a 6-2 lead.

Dibble would add another run in the seventh. Waltman singled with one out.

He stole second and scored on Smith’s second single of the game. Flores would strike out Reyes to end the game giving PV a 6-3 win.

The Panthers will play in the Purcell Invitational on Thursday, Friday and Saturday before wrapping up the regular season Monday at Anadarko.

District action is set for next Thursday as the Panthers travel to Ada to face the Cougars.
