Archie Lee King

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Longtime Cushing resident, Archie Lee King passed away on March 4, 2014 at his home in Cushing. He was 89 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Cushing with burial to follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery north of Cushing.

Archie was a long-time member of The First United Methodist Church in Pauls Valley and in Cushing. Rev. Kathy Leithner will officiate.

Archie was born May 19, 1924 on the family farm near Drumright, in Payne County, to Orville Lee and Della Catherine Bohannon King. He graduated from Drumright High School in 1942.

On March 25, 1944, he married Thelma E. Stephens and joined the U.S. Navy in May. He was assigned to Tongue Point Naval Air Station in Astoria, Oregon. Their only child, Shirley, was born while they were in Astoria.

After returning from the military in 1946, he went to work for Stanolind Pipe Line Company in Tulsa. Over the years, he also lived in Topeka and Elmont, Kansas and Wilson, Ringling and Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, as he was transferred with the oil company, whose name changed to Service Pipe Line Company and finally Amoco (now BP).

In 1982, he retired while living in Pauls Valley, and moved to Cushing to be near family. After retirement, he and Thelma spent many years traveling and enjoying their 5th wheel and bass boat.

Archie married Patsy Louise Callahan Nunn from Ralston in The First United Methodist Church in Cushing in April 2006.

Archie was a hardworking, loving man who always judged how his day went by what he had accomplished by the end of it. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, playing wahoo, watching western movies, and listening to country music. He loved taking care of his yard and did so until the fall of 2013.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Thelma; his parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Zola and Gene Holmes; one brother-in law, Billy Stephens; two sisters-in-law, Helen Philpott and husband Kenneth and Joyce Savory and husband Bob.

Archie is survived by his wife Patsy of the home; one daughter, Shirley Deaton and husband Steve (Ron) of Cushing; one stepdaughter, Shelly Sexton and husband Rodney of Broken Arrow; two grandsons, Chris Deaton and wife Lisa of Cushing, and Trey Deaton and wife Melissa of Edmond; two step granddaughters, Katelynn Bass and husband Dustin, and Calleigh Sexton of Broken Arrow; six great-grandchildren: Garrett, Carly, Renda, Clara, Brendan, and Archie Deaton; five step great-grandchildren: Morgan McGrew, Kaitlyn and Morgan Wilson, and Maddison Bass, and many other relatives and friends.
