Johnson shuts out Lexington — Pauls Valley sophomore Eddie Johnson pitched a complete game shutout Thursday as the Panthers won for the first time this season in two outings 2-0 over the Lexington Bulldogs.

Johnson’s complete game was the first of his career. He pitched 7 strong innings giving up 0 runs on 4 hits. He struck out 10 and walked only 1 in the outing.

Johnson had to work out of two situations in the first and fourth innings where Lexington had runners in scoring position.

A leadoff single by Lifford of Lexington gave the Bulldogs their first threat. Lifford stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Johnson got Tate to groundout to end the inning with no damage done.

David Flores singled for Pauls Valley to start the second for the Panthers first threat.

Noah Meave, who was running for Flores, stole second and moved to third on Devin Baker’s single. Tanner Hamilton laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Meave and give PV a 1-0 lead. Pauls Valley stranded runners at second and third with no one out.

Treston Williams singled with one out in the third but was stranded at third base.

Lexington threatened again in the fourth as Helsey walked to start the inning. He moved around to third on Tate’s one out double.

A strikeout and a ground out got the Panthers out of the inning as the scored remained 1-0.

Hamilton led off the bottom of the fourth with a single for the Panthers. He reached second on an error and scored on Caleb Jones’ double to left-center.

Jones moved to third on a ground by Perry. Jones was stranded at third but the Panthers run gave them a 2-0 lead.

Lexington would get base runners on in the sixth and seventh but couldn’t get anything going in the inning. Pauls Valley had runners on base in the fifth and sixth innings but couldn’t get anything going either.
